5歳からエレクトーンを習い、高校では軽音楽部に入部しドラムを習得。
進路を決める際、これまでに経験がなく「楽しそう」と感じた作曲に興味を持ち、高校卒業後尚美ミュージックカレッジ専門学校アレンジ・作曲学科（ソングライティング専攻）へ進学。作曲とDTMを学び始める。在学中にReolの歌詞や言葉遣いに感銘を受け、かねてより影響を受けていたJazzやボーカロイドと共に後の作風の基礎となる。
特にボカロ系やJazzの要素を取り入れたサウンドを強みとしているが、多くのジャンルに触れてきた経験から、J-POP、バンドサウンド、洋楽っぽいチルなR&BやEDMなど、ジャンルの垣根を超えた幅広い楽曲制作を可能とする。また、トラックアレンジや個性的なフレーズを用いたオリジナリティ溢れる歌詞、Mixにも定評があり、幅広い分野でオールマイティに活躍している。
音楽の「楽」を大切に、面白さと楽しさを追求した楽曲で聴き手を魅了していく。
Sota Utsumi started learning the electronic organ at the age of five, before joining a band through his music club in high school, where he learnt to play the drums.
When deciding on a career path, Sota Utsumi became interested in composing music, something he had never done before but found fun. Shortly after graduating from high school, he joined the songwriting course at Tokyo’s SHOBI College of Music as part of their Arrangement and Composition Department.
During his studies, a lot of his inspiration came from Reol, a Japanese artist and producer whose lyrics and style impressed him. This became the basis for Sota Utsumi’s later style, whose particular strengths lie in sounds that incorporate elements of Vocaloid and jazz.
His experience experimenting with many genres has enabled him to produce a wide range of music that transcends boundaries, whether that includes J-pop; rock; Western-style chill pop; R&B, or EDM.
Sota Utsumi is a multi-talented creator, active in a wide range of fields but also known for his mixes and track arrangements, as well as his original lyrics filled with unique phrases. He attaches great importance to the “smoothness” of music and captivates listeners with his interesting and fun-filled songs.
